Buggy Series

Hello Cgtalk,
Buggy series is one of bigger personal projects. I started to work on it in January 2008. It was shortly after I’ve seen Mad Max trilogy again. I love those fallout vehicles in the movie and I remember like I loved them when I was just a kid so I’ve decided to make at least my own one. I spent on it parts of my free time (about two to three weeks) during 4 months.
Well, let’s be honest and say that there is no big deep point in just a create heavy high detailed buggy in desert environment. I didn’t want to end up this project just like a car on the plane so I’ve tried to push myself a bit and make it a little bit more interesting. I decided to build up several different environments to make this project some kind of skill presentation for fancy car renderings but using old rusty mad fallout buggy. I started with the desert environment, then I played with forest river, then snowfield and rocky field with shipwreck was the last one. Final renders are 6.000 pixels width and my plan is to print them out on A2 and put it on the wall in the room of my son when he grow up a little. So it is also kind of present for my 10 months old son Adam. If you like just one of them It’s my pleasure!

As many times before I used 3dsmax for all modeling work and Photoshop to create or adjust textures. I used several types of grass from past projects. For rendering I used V-ray 1.5 and its VraySky map with direct light to illuminate the scene. All post-production work like color corrections and little bit of retouching were done in Photoshop.
I call it “What took you so long?!” and it is environment inspired by one of Pragues districts where I’m living and working now.
Name of the street on the plank is kind of ironic “Osloboditelov” which is in Slovak language and it means in English “Liberators”. Picture is dedicated to my wife and my collaegues from imagesFX.

Sunrise of the 80's

Hello everybody,

After the end of the year 2006, I had more free time to spend than usuall so I started to work on my new personal project.
I call it "Sunrise of the 80's". It took me about 3 weeks of work, mainly during the nights and creative moments of the short winter days.
In the begining it was planned as night street scene but during one week of playing with lighting
and testing I reached sunrise once again like in my previous work "Street of memories".
I hope that people who know these kind of housing estates sceneries will agree with me that they have a particular charm.

I used 3dsmax,Photoshop, Vray and Fusion. All models are done by me except small low polygonal cars in the front of the first house.
I used a lot of textures and references from www.environment-textures.com.
The price for membership is really ridiculous if you compare it with all those stuffs which you can find there.
This is image is dedicated to my wife and all ex-colleagues from 263 films in Milan.

Soon I'll post some wires or if you want to see them right now check my homepage.

Heritage

Hey guys!
after 2 months of summer time I've finish my next work. I call it "Heritage". I spent on it like 2 months
in the evenings and nights with quite big pauses during the summer (vacation, work etc). I tried to achieve
lighting in the time bit after sunset when intesity of sky is still strong but shadows are no more sharp but soft and diffuse.
Why Nuclear heritage? Don't worry I'm not one of the greenpeace guys :o). I just love the old broken dark atmosphere with a bit of romance inside.
Very first inspiration came from Stalker movie. I think it is one of last takes when whole family is walking by the shore
of the lake with Nuclear powerplant in the distance. My one is quite different and I put a different story into it and now it is
up to you guys to find out. I hope it's clear.

All is done in 3dsmax8 and rendered in Vray. Whole scene is modeled and rendered as geometry.
Rendering this scene took a lot of time, something like 60 hours on my laptop in 2k resolution.
Mostly because it is a very large scene (2km maybe more) with a lot of detailed geometry, displacement, translucency and reflections
so Raytracing is becoming really hell-like slow. I just wanted to have it all in 3d and now I'll try to optimize it for animation with replacing
as many objects as possible with prerendered mattes and maybe in the future I'll produce a short animation.

Since I moved from Slovakia to Italy I've started to miss a little bit
those nice romantic mornings when I was studying in Brno.
You are going to school and with a bit of luck you can find some cigarette from yesterday night in the pocket
Air so fresh and cold just like it can be in the city after rainy night
sun is low and strong so you have to close your eyes a little bit to see something...
Tired but prepared for brand new day

Dedicated to my wife and friends from University of Technology in Brno
Viva la vita!

Now little bit about the technical aspect of the image.

-All is done in 3dsmax and rendered with Vray
-There are about 2 milions faces plus displaced geometry
-Rendertime in 3k height was almost 19 hours.
-I spent on it several nights during few last weeks.
-probably I will write "making of" so I will share some information about shading and lighting
-I used also lowpoly cars and humans to make it more realistic. Those models are not created by me.

Hope you like it.
